JCHS Library
San Francisco, CA
As an adaptive re-use of a 1950’s building in the Western Addition neighborhood, the Jewish Community High School of the Bay library design takes advantage of the existing structure by exposing the concrete shell and keeping an open plan for flexibility. The Beit Midrash, a dedicated worship and learning area, is integrated at one end of the space creating an intimate environment for religious studies. The minimalist “arc” houses the torah and becomes a focal point within the space.
