Meditation Chapel
San Francisco, CA
This 250 sq. ft. non-denominational chapel at California Pacific Medical Center serves the hospital’s patients and their families. Envisioned as a place of contemplation, the design was inspired by the transitional process of portal, passage and sanctuary common in worshiping practices. At the entry, a composition of art glass and water stimulate the senses and provide a threshold to the space. The circle, a pure form, is interpreted into a truncated cylinder symbolizing the infinite nature of spirituality while creating a sanctuary for reflection.
