Pier 1 Lobby

San Francisco, CA

Pier 1 is an adaptive re-use of the 1932 historic warehouse that originally served C&H Sugar along the city’s waterfront. The exterior was completely rehabilitated and provides public access to the perimeter via the restored apron. With sensitivity to the industrial character, the design of the lobby creates an inviting space for exhibits open to the public along the historic railtrack corridor. The stair, bridge and guardrail detailing was conceived to complement the historic steel trusses.
