The Knoll
Stanford, CA
The Knoll at Stanford University is an adaptive re-use and seismic retrofit of the 20,000 sq. ft. historic President’s mansion. Serving the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics, the design approach was a delicate balance of preserving the historic public rooms while introducing studios and performance spaces specific to the technically innovative program. Simple, minimalist interventions create a positive dialogue with the decorative character while providing optimal research, teaching and performance environments.
